Introduction

1. Scope
1.1 General

This standard covers the requirements and procedures for reliability development (growth) tests. These tests are conducted during the hardware development phase on samples which have completed environmental tests prior to production commitment, and do not replace other tests described in the contract or equipment specification. These tests provide engineering information on the failure modes and mechanisms of a test items under natural and induced environmental conditions of military operations. Reliability improvement (growth) will result when failure modes and mechanisms are discovered and identified and their recurrence prevented through implementation of corrective action.
