Introduction
1. SCOPE.
1.1 Scope.
This standard establishes the technical content requirements for the preparation of operator instructions for weapon systems and equipment Technical Manuals (TMs). These requirements are applicable for both paper and digital page-oriented TMs. Electronic delivery of the TMs is accomplished through the use of the Operator Instructions modular Document Type Definition (DTD). The DTD is available in a digital format. Refer to MIL-STD-40051 for information on obtaining this DTD. Operator instructions provide the operator/crew with data for operating the weapon system/equipment including location and use of controls and indicators, how to prepare the weapon system/equipment for use, and how to operate the weapon system/equipment under ordinary, unusual, and emergency conditions.
