The production test plan outlines the general flow of testable assemblies up to and including the final assembly(ies) procured on the contract. In addition, a brief technical description of each item of special (factory) test equipment, not provided as Government Furnished Material (GFM), is included.

7. Application/Interrelationship
7.1 This Data Item Description contains the format and content preparation instructions for the data product generated by the specific and discrete tasks requirements for this data included in the contract.
7.2 The production test plan provides data to the Government procuring activity for technical analysis and cost effectiveness study. The test plan permits Government verification of adequate test capability to assure reliable products meeting all specification requirements at reasonable cost.
