Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) bring members together from different functional areas to focus on
common goals. A team might have members from manufacturing, customer support, procurement,
design engineering, and test. When changes are needed to resolve a design problem or reduce cost,
team members can identify all aspects of the issue from different perspectives at the same time. This
approach will reduce the time it takes to resolve problems, reduce costs by doing things
concurrently, and improve overall quality by evaluating all aspects of the product definition up front.
To facilitate this process, a majority of the IPT participants will actually move to a team work area.
Others will be "virtual" team members connected electronically, via Consistent Office Environment
(COE) machines.
