The current SPTR process utilizes TDRS F-1 for file transfers between South Pole Station and the White Sands Complex. Large file transfer (Ku-Band) is functional from South Pole Station to White Sands Complex only. The S-Band is bi-directional, and is used for operational, email, and general Internet traffic. Users of the store-and-forward process (typically a small group of grantees) FTP large data files to the South Pole store-and-forward server prior to the daily TDRS availability window. After transfer to White Sands Complex, users download their files and then delete behind. When storage for this server reaches capacity, the file transfer process terminates until space is available. There is one user account, shared by all users accessing the servers at both White Sands and South Pole.
